Police arrest 6 suspects who demanded ransom after killing victim in Ogun

THE police in Ogun State have arrested six members of a kidnap gang who allegedly killed one Femi Olatunji at Igbokoda area of Ondo State, last Friday.

The victim was said to have left his Isheri home, Lagos State, on a business trip to Ondo State and never returned to his family alive, as the kidnappers, having dispossessed him of his valuables, snuffed life out of him afterwards.

Those arrested were Fadeni Henry, Lebile Olatunji, Ehuwa Oririe, Olotu Tosin, Oluwole Odunayo and Peter Omogbemi.

The suspected criminals, after dispossessing the victim of his valuables, which included a certain amount of money, withdrew from his bank account through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), killed and dumped his body in a river behind Holy Trinity African Primary School in Igbokoda.

Parading the suspects at the headquarters of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said the operatives of FSARS, upon receiving the information, swung into action and stormed the hideout of the hoodlums at Igbokoda.

The suspected kidnappers were said to have engaged the police in a gun battle which lasted for almost two hours, but were later apprehended by the team led by DSP Uba Adams.

They were equally reported to have contacted the victim’s wife for ransom before her husband could be released.

The incident was reported at a police station in Isheri, and the police, upon the information, commenced investigation which led to their arrest.

Items recovered from them included a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep marked LAGOS EPE 603 AT belonging to the victim, one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size locally- made pistol, seven live cartridges and a Gionee mobile phone.

The corpse of the victim was recovered by the police, and had been deposited in the mortuaryfor autopsy.

The police commissioner who cautioned people to be security-conscious, also advised them to avoid embarking on business trips to strangers in unfamiliar terrains.

Iliyasu also warned parents to take good care of their children and train them in responsible manner, stating that Ogun State would be made unconducive for kidnappers and other criminals.
