The Ogun State Police Command, on Monday, said 22 cultists have been arrested across the state within 48 hours.

It will be recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, over the weekend set up a special operation squad to address cult-related clashes being experienced in different parts of the state.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said some of the cultists were arrested at Mayas in Lafenwa and Oju Ogbara in the Sapon area of Abeokuta when the squad stormed their hideouts.

The PPRO added that some of the suspects were arrested at Sagamu during similar operations.

He said all the arrested cultists are currently being investigated by the Police to ascertain their roles in the cult clashes that engulfed the state and claimed no fewer than 15 lives.

The CP appreciated the effort of the squad for taking the battle to the doorsteps of the cultists.

He, therefore, appealed to members of the public to always cooperate with the team by giving them necessary information that will enhance their operation.
