Police arrest 12 suspected counterfeit currency printers in Gombe

Gombe State Police Command has smashed a syndicate that specialised in printing and disposing of currency suspected to be counterfeit arresting 12 suspects in the process.

The arrest followed credible intelligence to which the Command responded promptly which led to the arrest of the 12 suspects between Bajoga and Dukku axis respectively.

The first batch of Six suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy, being in possession of currency suspected to be counterfeit.

The arrested suspects are Buba Muhammadu aged 45, Jungudo Muhammadu aged 53, Adamu Yusuf Mallum aged 30, Abdulhamid Abdullahi aged 60, Salihu Abdulhamid aged 50 and Abubakar Abdullahi aged 35.

According to the Command PPRO, ASP Mahid Abubakar, on January 23rd, at about 1100hrs, information was received at Bajoga Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 1000hrs, one Buba Muhammadu, 45 years, went to a Chemist belonging to one Muhammad Ismail of Sangaru Quarters Bajoga with counterfeit note of N1000.

On receipt of the complaint, Detectives attached to the Division were detailed to the scene where they arrested the said Buba and recovered the exhibits.

Further investigation led to the arrest of five other suspects mentioned above including Abubakar Muhammad who was arrested at Kano State.

Other exhibits recovered included 500 pieces of 100 US Dollar bills Counterfeit, and N265000 counterfeit of Nigeria Currency.

The second batch were arrested for the offences of criminal conspiracy and being in possession of counterfeit foreign currency.

The suspects arrested in connection of the offences are: Haruna Adamu aged 60 of Taguji village in Darazo LGA of Bauchi State, Garba Ibrahim aged 25 of Hashidu Dukku LGA, Gombe State, Samaila Musa aged 30 of Gombe Abba, Dukku LGA, Sa’adu Muhammed aged 23 of No. 10 Badarawa Qtrs, Kaduna State, Yusuf Abdullahi aged 30 of Gombe Abba, Dukku LGA and Muhammadu Umaru aged 26 of Gombe Abba, Dukku LGA.

According to the PPRO, On the 24/01/2024 at about 1730hrs, the suspects were arrested at Malala Village in Dukku LGA in possession of 63 pieces of 100 Dollar bills of counterfeit US Dollars.

Further investigation led to the arrest of three other accomplices also mentioned above while the Suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court for prosecution.
