Police arrest 10 persons for burgling Benue Govt House

MEN of Special Anti Robbery Squad in Benue State stormed Government House, Makurdi and arrested 10 suspected persons alleged to have burgled guest houses and government quarters within the seat of government.

The incident, according to source had been going on for sometimes now with Plasma TVs at presidential lodge, and governor’s waiting room being burgled while generator batteries and car batteries were said to have been constantly reported missing in Government House.

The source said that the leader of the gang is a staff of the maintenance unit who had been coming with strange people in the guise that they were his friends.

According to the source, “this burglary has been going on for sometimes now, each time these items were removed, it will be replaced, there was a staff at the maintenance department who always come with non staff.

“At a time I confronted him, he told me that he was bringing the friend so as to get used to his job in the event he is not around, the same person  (name withheld) is the one leading the policemen to arrest the suspects.’

The source further said that the suspect and his gang also burgled residence of an aide to Governor Samuel Ortom carting away over N75,000  and a two phones belonging to wife of the aide.

He said the burglars pulled out the air conditioner and used an instrument to draw the bag before removing the said amount and the phones.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to get the state police spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, were not successful as he failed to pick his calls while he did not reply to message sent to his phone.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Terver Akase, when contacted said he was not aware of the incident and referred reporter to the chief security officer.

Also the Chief Security Officer, Dominic Lorhembe, who was also contacted on phone said he was not aware of the incident.
