The creative industry in Nigeria and other stakeholder representatives will converge on the University of Ibadan’s Trenchard Hall on February 16, 2025, for a three-in-one event in memory of the late journalist Olutade Makinde, a celebrated columnist of the Odessa file in Saturday Tribune.
The event will feature the unveiling of a foundation, an awards ceremony recognising distinguished individuals and a book launch. It is being organised by a planning committee led by Ambassador (Dr) Yemi Farounbi, with backing from Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and the Ibadan Tennis Club.
Mr Boniface Itodo, General Secretary of PMAN, promised full representation at the event, emphasising the association’s commitment to honouring Makinde’s legacy.
“We appreciate the kind invitation and look forward to joining in the celebration of the life and legacy of the late Olu Makinde. His contribution to media and culture aligns with our values, and we are fully committed to this significant occasion,” Itodo stated.
The governor of TAMPAN in Oyo State, Bose Akinola, also expressed her enthusiasm for the event, pledging to attend alongside her executive members.
“We look forward to joining you for this momentous occasion,” Akinola said.
Olutade Makinde, who passed away on February 15, 2015, in Ado Ekiti, was widely known for his insightful and engaging column in Saturday Tribune, earning him a lasting legacy in the field of journalism.
The upcoming event promises to be a fitting tribute to his remarkable contributions and a gathering of creative minds and stakeholders united in remembrance and celebration.
