The police on Monday arraigned a 28-year-old plumber, Victor Hember, in a Wuse Zone 6, Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of 18 stolen bags of cement.
The police charged Hember, who resides in Garki village, Abuja, with receiving stolen property and belonging to a gang of thieves.
The defendant, however, denied the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Emmanuel Ochayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August17.
He alleged that the defendant was arrested by a team of policemen attached to the Apo Divisional Police Headquarters, Abuja while on patrol.

The prosecutor said during interrogation, the defendant admitted that he broke a container in Area 3, Garki and stole the said cement.
He also alleged that the defendant belonged to a gang of thieves, who terrorise residents of Apo and environs.
Ochayi said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 306 and 319 of the Penal Code Law.
The Magistrate, Ahmed Ndajiwo, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until September 27 for hearing.
