THE Action Democratic Party (ADP), in Plateau State, has debunked the claim by the State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Damishi Sango that ADP gubernatorial candidate, General Jon Temlong is being sponsored by Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to weaken the electoral strength of his candidate.
The ADP in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary Danjuma Auta said the party would not have dignified Hon Sango with a response but for the fact that his fraternity and hobnobbing with Governor Lalong is common knowledge and yet was the one making a frivolous allegation that calls for an urgent rebuttal.
“The ADP has earned for itself considerable reputation and credibility in the state because of its uncommon commitment to deepening democratic ethos and practices. The Plateau First philosophy of the Party has enhanced its popularity rating and has made it eclipse the APC and PDP.

“The candidate of the party, Gen Jon Temlong and his able running mate, Dr Daniel Mwanmut whose integrity is unquestionable and cannot be matched by any of the candidates of other political parties in the state is the team to beat in the forthcoming Governorship election. For the avoidance of doubt, Gen Temlong was motivated to join the race partly because of the below average performance of the APC Governor in the state”
According to the party, it was unimaginable that Lalong would deliberately sponsor a candidate to unseat himself and urged its members and supporters to continue with the statewide mobilisation to get its candidate elected as the next Governor of Plateau State.
It therefore advised Hon Sango to focus on the internal crises of his party rather than prying into the affairs of ADP adding that the party is determined to vanquish PDP and APC in the Governorship contest in the state.
However, the state chairman of PDP at a press conference on Monday had stated that the gubernatorial candidate of ADP was being sponsored by Governor Lalong in the guise of third force against its candidate Senator Jeremiah Useini.
According to Sango, the sponsorship was a plot by the incumbent governor to wither down the influence of PDP and the chance of its gubernatorial candidate adding that the plot against the PDP will further attract sympathy to the party instead of diminishing its chances of winning the election.
