The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command of the Nigeria Police Force paraded members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, on Wednesday.
The individuals were apprehended after a violent confrontation with security operatives in Abuja on Sunday.
The suspects, including young men, women, and even infants, were displayed by the police in the morning.
Earlier, the Shiite group had refuted allegations that they were responsible for the deaths of two police officers during the clash.
Tribune Online recalls that the violent altercation resulted in the deaths of two police officers, who were gruesomely killed during the confrontation between the FCT Police Command and IMN members.
The police accused the Shiite group of launching an “unprovoked attack” on their officers at Wuse Junction, using stones, machetes, locally made explosives, and knives.
In response, IMN officials denied the police allegations.
Abdullahi Musa, leader of the IMN procession in Abuja, said that police officers in plain clothes had opened fire on their unarmed members during a religious procession commemorating Imam Husain (AS), a revolutionary figure celebrated by Shiites worldwide.
