Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, former interim national chairman of the All Progressive (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, South West governors, namely Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Mr Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos), former governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba and other dignitaries on Tuesday converged at Ilesa for the 8-day fidau prayer for the late mother of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Alhaja Saratu Aregbesola.
The matriarch of Aregbesola’s family had died on the 1st of August, 2017 in her Ilesa residence at the age of 84.
The whole of Ilesa stood still as eminent dignitaries from all walks of life stormed the ancient city to witness the 8-day fidau and burial ceremony for Aregbesola’s mum.
Speaking, while offering a special prayer for the repose of Late Alhaja Saratu Aregbesola’s soul, popular Muslim cleric, Alfa Muyideen Bello charged Acting President Osinbajo not to be the intimidated by some powerful forces, fighting a cold war to dwarf the anti-corruption crusade of the federal government.
He said, “I want our acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo not to be cowed by some powerful forces, fighting very hard to tackle the Buhari’s government in its fight against endemic corruption in the country. You should not relent until all the thieves, who stole the nation’s commonwealth are brought to book.”
The guest lecturer at the fidau prayer, Alhaji Taofeek Abdul Hammed maintained that “everybody should endeavour to serve the Almighty God wholeheartedly and live an exemplary life that can benefit humanity, adding that success can only be evaluated by the number of people whose lives you have touched positively, and not by wealth and properties accumulated by individuals”.
Other eminent personalities at the event include, Chief Ayo Adebanjo; Senior Special Assistant to Governor Isiaka Ajimobi on Political Matters, Chief Morounkola Thomas; Alaafin of Oyo Oba, Lamidi Adeyemi; former chairman of EFCC, Mr Nuhu Ribadu; literary giant Mr Odia Ofeimu; Orangun of Oke Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin; and the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.
