Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, returned to Kebbi on Thursday after spending 123 days away following his detention, drawing a massive crowd that brought activities in parts of the state capital to a standstill.
Supporters thonged major roads from the airport into Birnin Kebbi, chanting and waving flags of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the platform now linked to his political re-emergence.

The large turnout disrupted movement and slowed commercial activities across key areas.
Eyewitnesses described the reception as unprecedented. A trader, Sani Abdullahi, said he had to shut his shop due to blocked roads, noting that the crowd size was unlike anything he had seen before.

Malami had been absent from the state since December 2025 after his arrest in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations still under legal review. He was later granted bail in March 2026 following a prolonged detention involving multiple legal proceedings.
Although the former minister has maintained a low profile since his return, supporters described the homecoming as symbolic. Some said it reflected strong public backing and renewed political momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
Footage circulating online showed long convoys, chanting crowds, and supporters climbing elevated structures to catch a glimpse of the former AGF, while security personnel were deployed to maintain order.
