Some Nigerians on social media have continued to react differently to trending pictures of the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, lying flat to greet Ekiti state legal icon and elder statesman, Afe Babalola, SAN.
Sharing the now viral pictures on Twitter, an Ekiti indigene identified as Arabinrin Aderonke wrote, “I am from Ekiti State, and here is my governor, a man I call BAO, greeting Afe Babalola SAN, another Ekiti man and elder statesman, in the Yoruba way, as it should be. We are wired and trained to always greet and accord our superiors with utmost respect. Proud of you, Governor BAO.”
The pictures have, however, been greeted with mixed reactions since they were posted. While some social media users who hailed the governor over the development described him as a humble personality despite his position as number one citizen of the state, others seem unimpressed, saying greetings don’t necessarily indicate good character. They added that performing excellently as the governor of the state is what matters the most.
Hailing the governor, @KaykayL14 wrote, “The way we are trained in Ekiti. We never allow position to override the strong values we hold. Well done, my dear Governor. You will always be honored too. God bless Ekiti State.”

In a contrary opinion, @chuks_senseman wrote, “How does this reduce the price of groceries in the market… y’all government officials should prioritize what’s important now because we are in a very delicate time, and enough with irrelevant tweets.”
I hope he is effective in his role as Gov, because greetings is not character

Supporting his stand, @Kunzibaba posted, “I hope he is effective in his role as Gov because greeting is not character.”
“How does this translate into science and technology, which drives the development and industrialization of nations? Rubbish. No doubt, Nigeria is so dead backward,” @MartynObot opined.
