The immediate past deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has dismissed a viral video portraying him as having reservations over the declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “false, misleading and doctored”, using the Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This was just as he attributed the said video to “a product of mischief” as he never at anytime criticise President Tinubu over the suspension of Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly because of the State of Emergency the President declared in the state.
Earlier a video, which has since gone viral, surfaced on Wednesday showing Shaibu sitting next to an unidentified man dressed in white, where his seeming discussion indicated that he was having reservations on the way the State of Emergency was declared in the oil-rich Rivers State.
Reacting to the video, Shaibu, in a press statement issued by his media team on Thursday, described the report as “false, misleading, and a product of mischief,” labelling it a desperate attempt by political detractors to drag him into non-existent controversies.

“We categorically state that at no time did His Excellency grant any interview, make any statement, or participate in any discussion concerning the current political developments in Rivers State,” the statement said, dismissing the video as “doctored.”
The former deputy governor stressed that if he had any reason top ventilate his opinion on any matter of national interest, he would do so through “reputable television stations, established newspapers, and other credible media platforms.”
He dismissed the viral report as a fabricated narrative pushed by “desperate bloggers seeking to revive their failing careers.”
Shaibu further alleged that certain political figures, including prominent ones in the past administration in the state, had been orchestrating a smear campaign against him.
“These same elements are now using technology, including AI, to doctor videos and manufacture falsehoods to tarnish his image or sell their agenda,” the statement added.
Refuting claims of any rift with the Presidency, Shaibu reiterated his respect for President Tinubu and commended his efforts in ensuring national stability.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu holds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the highest regard and has deep respect for his leadership.”
“As a democrat and firm believer in constitutional governance, Shaibu remains committed to the rule of law and the principles of justice.” The statement further emphasised.
Shaibu, therefore, urged the public to disregard the “concocted report”, dismissing it as a “figment of the imagination of those behind it.”
The former deputy governor reiterated that he remained focused and declared that he would not be distracted by “desperate politicians who have lost relevance.”
