Teachers in Kwara State have resolved to declare a day of fasting and prayer in supplication to God for divine intervention to ensure realisation of their pending demands from the state government.
In a statement, with reference number: NUT/KWSW/PRESS/067/VOL.1/16, issued on Tuesday by the state chairman of the Nigeria Union Teachers (NUT), Comrade Yusuf Agboola, and the deputy secretary general, MONI Mike Itua, the teachers said that they resolved to seek divine intervention after a stakeholders meeting, adding that they would go ahead to issue a formal ultimatum to the state government in preparation for a legitimate showdown.
The union, who did not state a particular date the fasting and prayers would hold, called on all its members to remain calm while awaiting further necessary
directives.
The teachers also dissociated themselves from social media publications calling out public schools teachers in the state for a protest against the union and the state government, “consequent upon the non-realization of some pending teachers’ demands from government”.
The statement also decried the alleged graveyard silence of the state government on the 27.5% and 21% Teachers Specific Allowances (TSA), “despite all the genuine efforts made by the union to get government to do the needful”.
