PDP’s stakeholder regroup for 2019 battle in Nasarawa state

TOP national stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) have met under a closed-door meeting in Abuja to discuss the political direction to ensure the emergence of Hon. David Emmanuel Ombugadu as Governor of Nasarawa state.

The meeting which was initiated by prominent leaders in the north with some Christian leaders, took far-reaching decisions to make sure that the state produces a governor who will be committed towards tackling the incessant communal, farmer and herder crisis in the state that has sent many to their early grave.

According to one of the leaders who prefers anonymity, the meeting also looked at the injustice the APC leadership in the state has done to the people of the northern zone by giving the governorship ticket to a Hausa minority in a Christian dominated zone, noting that all hands must be on deck to stop such a glaring marginalisation.

They resolved to rally round support for the PDP governorship candidate, Hon David Ombugadu, who is ready to treat all tribes equally and fairly and has vowed to tackle the crisis head long to ensure that the people of the state enjoy peace and food security.

“ when injustice becomes a role, resistance becomes a duty, the Eggons are the majority in the northern zone and David Ombugadu is the candidate to go for.

“They also resolved to reverse their early zoning of the state deputy governorship to western zone by moving it to the southern senatorial zone where the Alagos are the majority and Hon Ogoshi Onawo who is a member of the House of Representatives and a Muslim is being considered

“Earlier, the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar suggested his boy who came second in the APC governorship primaries and the most popular politician in the state Hon Ahmed Wadada from the western zone to be the running mate of Hon Ombugadu, but the plans seem to change when APC pick an unpopular running mate in the southern zone, Dr Emmanuel Akaabe.

“Already the PDP state caucus met last night and the meeting will continue today in Abuja to pick a final running mate between Wadada and Hon Onawo.

“We also resolve to all brace up to this challenge because no one gets to the midst of the river and still complains of cold, the APC has placed the state on sale to Dangote and we must put together all our efforts , resources to stop them, the time has come for a Christian to govern Nasarawa state.

“If you look at the APC primaries, out of 24 assembly seats, the Christians got only five seats, and out of eight national assembly seats, the Christian got only two.

“But if you go to the PDP primaries, Christians got 12 and Muslims 12 assembly seats respectively in a 24 assembly slots, out of eight national assembly seats, they shared it four each, so PDP is more committed to religious political balance in the state and we are all going for them , we are tired ” he added.

He further explained that the good thing about the development is that even the Muslim community in Nasarawa state have rejected the APC governorship candidate and have vows to go for the candidate of PDP whom they believe will better address the issues of the state.

The Ex-Generals promised to provide the necessary assistance to make sure that the jinx of a Christian governor is broken in Nasarawa state come 2019 and the peace which the people seeks is restored.

But speaking on phone to our correspondent, the state CAN chairman Bishop Joseph Masin said the association is not a political one and the people of the state will look at all the issues raise and decide who to govern them through the ballot.

The state publicity secretary of PDP Umar Bala said the PDP in the state have completed all arrangement to take over Nasarawa state in 2019 through a fair and credible elections and the signs are very clear.

The state publicity secretary of APC, Mr Wuduyamba Sam Agidi said the people of Nasarawa state will vote base on credibility and competence of the candidates and not base on religious sentiment.
