AS the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) draws near, members of the party in Kogi State on Wednesday expressed worries over moves to fill the post of national deputy chairman zoned to the state.
They however called on the party at the national level to be vigilant in the composition of the new national officers so as not to allow its efforts at reorganising the party come to be futile.
The Kogi PDP in a statement signed by Usman Enape, particularly condemned the plan of a national caretaker committee member from the state, Kabiru Usman, to occupy the post of the national deputy chairman.
The people stated that Usman had been making frantic efforts to transmute to becoming the national deputy chairman of the party at the forthcoming Port-Harcourt convention.
The group said though the office of the deputy national chairman was zoned to the state, it however expressed disaffection by the plot by Usman to aspire to the office despite the agreement and public pronouncements that members of the present national caretaker committee members not to contest any post at the convention.
The PDP members disclosed that such action by Usman would not augur well for a party that is undergoing reorganisation and out to correct its past excesses.
The state PDP commended the national leadership of the party for zoning the office of the national deputy chairman to the state, assuring that the state is blessed with quality men who would fill the position without going against the party’s decision.
The group however urged Usman to tow the part of honour not to aspire in the forthcoming convention and to also not drag the name of the state to disrepute.
