A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Olalekan Oyeyemi Daud, has denied alleged involvement in the state local government crisis that resulted in violence in Olorunda Local Government Area.
Oyeyemi disclosed this in a statement released by his media team, urging the general public to disregard any false report against him.
The statement partly reads, “My attention was drawn to a disturbing video clip courtesy of TVC News where the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Basiru Ajibola fondly called SRJ levelled a spurious accusation against my person, alleging that I was physically present at Olorunda Local Government Area alongside the Secretary to the Osun State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, to stir up chaos.
“I was astonished at the absurdity of his claims, knowing fully well that Basiru Ajibola has a penchant for peddling falsehoods. I would not want to dwell on his personality I would rather choose to address the issue.”
Oyeyemi described Basiru Ajibola’s allegations as “baseless”, but said there is a need to respond to the “egregious and false narratives” levelled against him, challenging the APC National Secretary to provide evidence against him.
Furthermore, he said, “It is very obvious that Basiru Ajibola and his cohorts within the All Progressives Congress APC forcefully seized control of local governments, a move thwarted by the good people of Osun. However, I feel compelled to set the record straight and address the egregious accusations levelled against me by SRJ, who is desperately seeking to have a state of emergency declared in Osun State.
“Yesterday, I humbly addressed the media, urging the public to shun violence and embrace civility. My address was broadcast on Fresh FM, however, SRJ and his party, the APC, couldn’t acknowledge the truth. They attempted to distort reality, claiming that the violence they orchestrated was caused by some individuals. However, their propaganda was effectively countered with verifiable facts.
“To set the record straight, I categorically and outrightly condemned Basiru’s allegations that I was present at the Olorunda Local Government to provoke or stir up violence. Beyond question, Olorunda local government area is where I cast my vote (that is my local government), however, on that very day I was not there at all.
“Every statement Basiru made during the TVC News interview was a blatant lie, a fabrication from the pit of hell. I challenge Basiru Ajibola to provide evidence to substantiate his claims. As a lawyer, he should be able to provide facts or pictorial evidence to back his claims. If he fails to provide any, the public should discard his claim and consider it false, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to call a dog a bad name to hang it.
“It is worth noting that someone with gubernatorial ambition would resort to such egregious dishonesty, even advocating for a state of emergency to conceal his deceit. The general public should be aware that all the violent incidents that occurred in Osun State were directly caused by the APC’s insatiable hunger for power and their blatant lies should be disregarded.
“Despite the subsisting judgment of the APP, which sacked the APC chairmen, remaining unchallenged and valid, they still attempted to forcefully seize control of local government areas.
“Assuming without conceding, they should approach the court to enforce whatever judgment they claim they had rather than dropping names from the federal government to stir up chaos in the state.
“Once more, I urge the general public to disregard any of his falsehoods against me. His gubernatorial ambition has been thwarted by his character and he knows it. As I broadcast on the radio station before the ugly incident happened, I still implore the good people of Osun to remain law-abiding and to disregard the APC’s false narratives.”
