The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Senate President, Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating a smear campaign against his successor as Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, in what it describes “as a desperate attempt to discredit the party.*
In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP alleged that Akpabio had compromised sections of the media to circulate falsehoods, misrepresentations, and baseless allegations of corruption against Emmanuel.
The party specifically condemned attempts to portray Emmanuel as being indicted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), dismissing the claims as “spurious and fictitious figures” meant to mislead the public.
“Nigerians have already seen through Akpabio’s machinations against former Governor Udom Emmanuel. Such an unholy enterprise cannot succeed,” the statement read.
The PDP defended Emmanuel’s tenure as governor, describing it as marked by transparency, prudence, and a commitment to service-driven governance.

The party highlighted his achievements in infrastructure, aviation, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and power, positioning Akwa Ibom as a model of good governance.
Advising Akpabio to abandon his alleged smear tactics, the PDP urged the Senate President to focus on the pressing challenges facing the National Assembly.
