The Assistant Director of Nursing Education, School of Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing, Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, ARO, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Mr. Olaoye Kayode, has stated that there has been an astronomical rise in substance abuse in the society especially among youths. He said this had taken a dangerous dimention as about 31 million persons have drug-induced psychatric disorders as well as 3.3 million deaths each yearas a result harmful use of alchohol.
He said this when delivering a speech as a guest speaker on the topic “Pseudo-High Inducers Mortgaging Future Prospects,” at the 20th Valedictory Service of Sharon Rose Schools and College, Saki, Oyo State.
Olaoye described Pseudo-high inducers as bad habits or immoral activities to enhance performance that may be presented as gainful but at long or short runs are capable of destroying the future or shattering the future dream. “They are bad traits, unhealthy and negative behaviours that are against the morality of society and frowned upon by members of society.”
He said the pseudo inducers corresponds with Proverbs 14:12 that there is a way that seems right to a man but the end is the way of death.
Olaoye urged parents, schools, community/religious bodies, and government to put up preventive measures against substance use among youth and young adults.
The Director of Schools, Mrs. T.O. Oluwasola gave all glory to God, who she referred to as “The Rose of Sharon,” for how far He has brought the school especially celebrating 20th Valedictory Service of the institution with numerous feats achieved by the school through students’ performances at various competitions and in their results. She expressed heart of gratitude to parents who have all been supportive of their children throughout their stay in school as well as their cooperation with the school management. Oluwasola prayed that they will all reap the fruits of their labour by God’s grace.
The chairman of the occasion and the Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Iseyin L.G., Pastor Oyebisi Oyediran commended the commitment of the school owners, Dn. Sam and his wife Teniola Oluwasola, who have over the years given their students all round education. In his speech, the principal of the school, Mr. Elijah Adetayo Aderoju, said he was happy that the graduating set cooperated with the school management throughout their stay in the institution. He implored never to forget all they had learnt as everything have been in obedience to God’s instruction to groom leaders that will be globally relevant.
Aderoju admonished the students not to compromise the standard that has been set for them while they make judicious use of the skills acquired for a better future. The students were charged never look for short-cut in life, this is because anything acquired with short-cut will definitely be cut short.
While recounting the school’s achivements in the just concluded session, the Principal said they recorded in this year’s UTME as three of their students scored above 300: Adeleke Israel Damilare scored 333, Eniola Isaac Damilare scored 323 while Oyebisi Goodluck Temilolu scored 322.
He said that 79 out of the 94 students, which amounts to 84% of the students presented for the examination scored 200 and above as against the 70.3% recorded last year.
The Valedictorian of 2023 set, Eniola Isaac Oluwadamilare, charged his mates on “Releasing Your Potential,” saying the journey of becoming a celebrated personality starts by knowing, releasing and maximizing the potentials God has given. He stressed that everyone must devise his or her own way of working things out therefore each person must understand and align his or nature to his or potential which in most cases are different from others.
