PanAfrican Capital Foundation has taken a proactive step in supporting the fight against breast cancer among women.
They recently organised a breast cancer awareness campaign and provided free breast cancer screenings for over 100 women in Lagos State.
The free breast screening initiative is part of the Foundation’s Project B, aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer and playing a significant role in supporting women in society. Joshua Dominic, the Project Officer at PAC Foundation, highlighted the importance of their ongoing efforts in the face of the global prevalence of breast cancer as a leading cause of death.
He mentioned that the breast screening initiative includes two methods: ultrasound for women under 35 and mammograms for older women. He also emphasised that Project B extends beyond screenings, as they began the month with awareness campaigns across various platforms. They utilized live videos, online sessions, and group discussions to educate women about improving their overall well-being and breast health.
Joshua Dominic explained the application and selection process for free screening, where interested candidates fill out a digital application form and provide reasons for their application. Selected candidates are then contacted and given schedules and directions to Sage Diagnostic Center for the screening.
Omolola Ojo, the Executive Secretary of PAC Foundation, underlined their commitment to creating social impact through innovation and immediate action. She pointed out that October, being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, provides an opportunity to improve the quality of life for women through education and free screenings for 100 women in Lagos.
She emphasized the global impact of breast cancer and the foundation’s dedication to providing access to breast checks and breast health education. Asekun Omotoke, one of the beneficiaries of the program, expressed her gratitude and highlighted the importance of overcoming the fear of the unknown through screening.
Ameachi Uchenna, another beneficiary, stressed the significance of women paying attention to their bodies and any signs in their breasts. She shared her personal experience with her aunt, who had breast cancer, and encouraged regular checkups and self-examinations.
Mr. Micheal Bamidele, the Senior Sonographer Radiographer at Sage Diagnostic Center, provided information on breast cancer symptoms. He advised women to seek screening if they experience persistent breast pain, notice breast lumps, experience discharge or bleeding, or observe changes in breast size, among other symptoms.
PanAfrican Capital Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of PanAfrican Capital Holdings, focuses on Education, Economic Empowerment, Environment, and Health. Project B exemplifies their commitment to combating breast cancer by offering accessible, no-cost education and screenings for women of all ages.
