Pa Adebanjo’s death great loss to Yoruba people – Lagos Assembly

The Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Afenifere leader and prominent Awoist, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, describing his death as a great loss to the Yoruba people and Nigeria.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Ogundipe Stephen, the Assembly hailed Adebanjo as a “thoroughbred Awoist, a progressive politician, and a patriotic Nigerian.”

The statement highlighted Adebanjo’s immense contributions to the defunct Action Group (AG) and Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) under Chief Obafemi Awolowo, noting that he lived a fulfilled life dedicated to progressive politics and national development.

“It is unfortunate that today, we lost one of the leaders of Afenifere, a staunch Awoist, and a progressive politician, Chief Ayo Adebanjo. His life was dedicated to serving the Yoruba people and humanity in general,” the statement read.

The Assembly acknowledged Adebanjo’s wisdom and fearless stance on national issues, stating that his voice would be greatly missed in political and social discourse.

On behalf of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, Stephen extended condolences to the Afenifere group, the Adebanjo family, and progressive forces across Nigeria.

“We pray God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear this great loss,” the statement concluded.
