The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has assured the public of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in the 33 local government areas of the state by December 29, 2026.
The Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Adeniyi, gave the assurance while receiving a courtesy visit from the executives of the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by its Chairman, Mr. Yinka Adeniran.
He stated that the commission would abide by the rules and guidelines of the electoral process to deliver a credible election acceptable to all political parties and citizens of the state.

“All the processes leading to the election are in top gear. We will ensure compliance with all relevant laws and conduct a credible election that will be acceptable to everyone,” he said.
The Chairman also solicited the support of the media and political parties to help the commission deliver on its mandate and address the issue of voter apathy, which often characterises local government elections in the state.
He expressed appreciation to the media for the support they have given him even before he assumed office as chairman of the commission and promised to leverage that support.
“This visit will not be taken for granted. Media practitioners have done well as the bridge between rulers and the public.
“You have assisted us with your adequate and balanced reportage. We are happy and grateful for your constant support,” he said.
“The activities for the election have commenced, and there is no way we can deliver a transparent and credible election without your support,” he added.
Also speaking, OYSIEC Commissioner Mr. Remi Ayoade called on all political parties in the state to actively participate in the forthcoming local government and councillorship elections.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Mr. Yinka Adeniran, described the OYSIEC Chairman as a unionist who has won many battles for the good of the downtrodden.
Adeniran said that Dr. Adeniyi’s unionist approach would bring radical change to the commission and pledged the commitment of Chapel members to support him in achieving results.
“We believe in your ability to deliver a credible and fair election and to deepen democracy at the grassroots for the good of the state,” he said.
