The Director-General of the Oyo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OYSAA), Oludolapo Eso-Ajanaku, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to regulatory enforcement, digital transformation, and transparency in the outdoor advertising industry.
This was disclosed during a recent interview on a program titled ‘Situation Room’ with Mayor Isaac Brown on Fresh 105.9 FM, monitored by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday morning in Ibadan.
Speaking on the agency’s mandate, Eso-Ajanaku emphasised that OYSAA operates within a legally established framework aimed at ensuring order, sanity, and accountability in the signage and outdoor advertising sector in Oyo State.
He noted that the agency is actively pursuing its enforcement agenda, with field officers currently deployed to ensure compliance across the state.
“One of the key reforms is the introduction of ‘Know Your Practitioner’ (KYP), a cataloguing initiative designed to identify and register practitioners operating in the state properly,” he said.
He also highlighted the launch of the OYSAA Asset and Signage Management (ASM) portal, describing it as qa 24-hour digital platform that allows real-time asset tracking, practitioner interaction with the agency, and personal record updates.
“We also started something very key, which is the OYSAA Asset and Signage Management portal (ASM), a digital portal that allows for 24-hour asset tracking, also for practitioner to interact with the agency and to update their record and lots more,” he said.
The ongoing revalidation process, he explained, is part of the agency’s strategy to digitise practitioners’ data and improve asset monitoring for better operational efficiency.
Addressing concerns around debt owed by practitioners, Eso-Ajanaku clarified that while outright debt relief is not available, the agency is open to offering flexible payment plans l to ease the financial burden on compliant operators. On the issue of regulators owning billboard assets, the DG took a firm stance, stating that he frowns upon agency officials, including directors, owning or operating billboards.
He emphasised that he has no interest in billboard ownership and would not use his office to pursue such interests.
Speaking on the agency’s financial performance, he noted a significant improvement in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), adding that OYSAA is now performing better than in previous years, which he attributed to the impact of ongoing reforms.
Eso-Ajanaku also stressed the need for increased public awareness, particularly regarding the proper procedures and regulations surrounding advertising placements.
He encouraged advertisers to ensure due process and regulatory compliance, adding that interested stakeholders should visit the agency’s office for proper orientation.
The DG, however, reaffirmed OYSAA’s commitment to continuing its regulatory drive, with a focus on promoting fairness, professionalism, and sustainability in the signage and outdoor advertising industry across Oyo State.
