The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) over the weekend carried out a series of raids targeting illegal street traders across key areas in Ibadan metropolis.
The operation, led by the agency’s Chairman, Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), focused on Oritamerin, Gege, Agbeni, and Ogunpa, addressing issues of blocked roads and traffic disruption caused by makeshift markets in these areas.
Adesagba, accompanied by the General Manager, Commander Ayoade Adekola, emphasized that the agency’s efforts aim to restore order, reduce traffic congestion, and curb environmental hazards.

He noted that street trading in these areas has led to indiscriminate waste disposal, clogged drainage systems, and worsening flooding in parts of the city.
Expressing disappointment over the traders’ non-compliance with government regulations, Adesagba disclosed that market stalls were seized, and fines imposed on offenders.
Furthermore, 12 individuals operating an illegal motor park within the market area were apprehended and penalized.
He urged traders to refrain from conducting business on the roads, highlighting that the government’s initiatives are focused on ensuring public safety and protecting property.
“The OYRTMA’s enforcement operation is part of the Oyo State Government’s broader efforts to reduce accidents and improve road safety,” Adesagba said.
“These measures have resulted in a significant reduction in accidents, making the roads safer for both traders and road users.”
He further stated that the agency’s actions have been widely commended for fostering a conducive environment for business and transportation in the state.
