Over 500 residents of Ibarapa land have received varying sums of money under an empowerment programme organised by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin.
While 300 artisans, farmers and traders each received N50,000, 100 students got N20,000 each while 110 youths and some community members received N25,000 each, at the programme held at DEC Event Centre, on the Lanlate-Eruwa road.
The event saw Ogundoyin assert his commitment to the progress and development of his Ibarapa East constituency as he reeled out his achievements thus far.
He said he had built a maternity centre, mosque for the Muslim community, secretariat for the Eruwa Youth Movement, blocks of classrooms in Lanlate and Eruwa, supported security agencies with motorcycles and facilitated opportunities for his constituents.
He, however, charged sons and daughters of Ibarapa land, irrespective of political parties, to collaborate in the interest of progress and development of the zone.
Speaking, Ogundoyin assured his constituents of commitment of the Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to complete all ongoing projects in the Ibarapa zone.
Ogundoyin said he was unrelenting in championing the interest of the people in his constituency and the state at large.
In a related development, member representing Ibadan South West 1 state constituency, Honourable Yusuf Adebisi has awarded two years scholarship for the National Diploma programme to five of his constituents.
The beneficiaries are Afolabi Opeyemi to study Public Administration; Dikrullahi Shakira, Accountancy; Adefemi Fathia, Computer Science; Selimat Oladepo, Accountancy and Makinde Oyinkansola, Computer science.
Adebisi said the gesture is to fulfil his promise during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration with his constituents.
The beneficiary students were drawn across six wards in the Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1.
Addressing the beneficiaries of the scholarships in his office, Honourable Adebisi said the gesture will go a long way in making them aware that education is the only key that can open doors of opportunity for them in life.
Adebisi charged the students to see the opportunity as a challenge to rededicate and refocus their time and energy towards realizing their objectives in life.
Yusuf, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports urged them to do away with bad friends that can influence them to get involved in bad habits such as drug abuse, thuggery and cultism.
Adebisi promised to do whatever is in his capacity to support the beneficiaries apart from the scholarship to make them excel in their studies.
Similarly, Adebisi has paid all outstanding school fees of Rodiat Ayegbajeje, who lost her father in 2019 at the age of one, now five years old, to enjoy a scholarship from primary to university level.
Adebisi promised to do all in his capacity to support the family her father left behind apart from the full scholarship given to the child.
