The Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has assured Corps members posted to the state of safety and security during their service year.
He disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch A stream 1 Corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.
Makinde, represented by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke said that the state government is working on ensuring a conducive environment for corps members posted to the state.
Speaking in his address to the Corps members, Governor Makinde said, “Oyo state is totally safe, peaceful and habitable for all and sundry irrespective of your cultural background, religion and tribe. We have a flourishing economy thriving on the industrious, friendly and hospitable nature of our people.
“In short, our dear state is blessed with all that pertains to good. As a government, I want to reiterate our uncompromising commitment towards providing adequate security for the lives and property of citizens and residents of our dear state.
“We remain resolute in maintaining our pacesetting role in terms of Corps welfare. In full acknowledgement of this, I will say, you are indeed privileged to be posted to Oyo State, a land of possibilities and endless opportunities.”
The governor also urged the Corps members to be self-reliant and prepare themselves for the challenges of leadership.
He encouraged them to make good use of the programmes and training available during their three weeks in the orientation camp.
“I appeal to you at this juncture to take the programmes seriously, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training.
“The programmes have been designed to equip you with relevant skills that will enable you to become self-reliant and wealth creator rather than job seeker,” he said.
On his part, the Oyo state NYSC coordinator, Mr Odoba Abel Oche while congratulating the Corps members, encouraged them to contribute to the unity, integration and advancement of the state and Nigeria in general.
He also urged the Corps members to be fully involved in all camp activities and training as this will in effect help them live a well-ordered and self-reliant life.
Odoba said 1,737 Corps members, comprising male 852 and female 885, were registered for the three-week orientation programme.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Justice Olusegun Olagunju, representing Chief Judge of Oyo State, Mrs. Iyabo Yerima.
