The Oyo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Augustine Padonu, has called on the police to collaborate in combating illegal mining activities in the state.

The Commandant made the call on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Adebola Hamzat, in his office at the police headquarters at Eleyele in Ibadan.

Saying that illegal mining poses a threat to the environment, security and safety of residents, he stressed that joint efforts of the NSCDC and the Police would effectively address this challenge.

The Commandant acknowledged the strong bond currently existing between the NSCDC and the police in Oyo, saying that the visit was aimed at strengthening it.

He expressed his appreciation for the joint efforts of the security chiefs in the state, emphasising the importance of collaboration in maintaining peace and security.

He also highlighted the need for assistance from the Commissioner of Police in the area of training for the NSCDC personnel.

Recognising the significance of continuous professional development, he sought the support of the Police in enhancing the knowledge and skills of NSCDC personnel.

Responding, CP Hamzat expressed his appreciation for the synergy among security agencies in Oyo State.

He commended the existing collaboration, stating: “I have not seen such collaboration elsewhere.”

The Commissioner of Police emphasised the importance of fostering a harmonious working relationship, saying that there should be no inferiority or superiority complexes among the security agencies.

CP Hamzat assured the NSCDC Commandant of his commitment to assisting in the area of training, stating that it would serve as a platform to unite and bring officers of lower ranks together.
