Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering impactful service and building a lasting legacy through infrastructural development and human capacity enhancement.
The Chairman of the Oyo LG commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, stated this while receiving the leadership of the Kano State Local Government Service Commission, which was in Oyo State on a study tour aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and promoting interstate collaboration.
The Kano delegation, led by its Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, engaged in extensive discussions with officials of the Oyo State Commission on strategies for improving local government administration, staff development, and service delivery.

Addressing the delegation, Bashorun Akinwole said the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has undertaken far-reaching reforms that have significantly strengthened local government administration and enhanced human capacity development across the state.
According to him, the various programmes and reforms introduced by the present administration have improved efficiency in the public service and positioned Oyo State as a model for other states in the federation.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril described the study tour as “not merely a ceremonial visit,” but “a strategic engagement designed to enhance institutional capacity, promote inter-state collaboration, and deepen our understanding of best practices in local government administration.”
He further disclosed that the Kano State Government recently revived its Local Government Service Commission following legislative reforms.
According to him, a committee set up in 2024 recommended the articulation and amendment of the draft bill establishing the Commission, which was subsequently passed into law on March 2, 2026.
Jibril emphasised the critical role of local governments in governance, noting that “the Local Government system remains the closest tier of government to the people. As such, its effectiveness directly impacts on the quality of life of our citizens.”
He added that the visit would provide Kano State with a valuable opportunity to learn from Oyo State’s experience and strengthen ongoing reforms in its local government system.
“This visit provides us with a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, compare administrative frameworks, and adopt best practices that will enhance service delivery in Kano State,” he said.
The Kano LGSC Chairman further revealed that the delegation was particularly interested in obtaining information and relevant documents on the structure, composition, mandate, recruitment and training processes, promotion procedures, disciplinary mechanisms, and retirement administration of the Oyo State Commission.
In their separate remarks, officials of both commissions expressed optimism that the collaboration between Oyo and Kano States would facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices in key areas of local government administration.
They noted that the partnership would strengthen institutional capacity, improve records management, staff recruitment and training, promotion processes, disciplinary procedures, and retirement administration, ultimately enhancing service delivery within the local government systems of both states.
Expressing appreciation to their hosts, Jibril said, “We look forward to fruitful engagements and enduring partnerships that will strengthen the Nigerian Public Service as a whole.”
