MR Olusegun Olaleye, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North I in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has called on the executive arm of government to immediately rehabilitate roads in Ibadan metropolis.
Olaleye said this while speaking to newsmen at the end of the plenary of the house on Tuesday.
He said that it was frustrating to see well-laid roads being destroyed by telecommunications companies.
“I wish to draw the attention of the house to what has become the trend across Oyo State.
“Driving through major roads within Ibadan metropolis, one would see stretches of holes dug up by telecoms companies and water corporation.
“While these bodies have a right to expand their services and install new infrastructure, care must be taken to ensure such activities do not affect the communities negatively,” he said.
According to him, it is irresponsible for those who commission the digging of asphalt roads to abandon such roads thereafter.
“I believe that the repair and rehabilitation of damaged roads must have been provided for the budget of such projects.
“These dug pits, apart from obvious negative impacts on the quality of the roads and flow of traffic, constitute a threat to road safety,” he said.
Olaleye said that many of road accidents were as a result of preventable causes.
