… renovates schools
The lawmaker representing Oluyole Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo has empowered 120 constituents with a N6 million programme aimed at boosting livelihoods and reducing hardship.
At the event, which was well attended by lawmakers, People’s Democratic Party, PDP chieftains at the state, local and ward levels, Akintayo also commissioned two newly renovated classrooms at Olunde Community Primary School, which had earlier been in a state of disrepair before the lawmaker’s intervention.
The grassroots politician who is the chairman, Oyo assembly committee on media, ICT and public affairs also distributed security gadgets to personnel of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria at Olunde community, to boost the security of lives and property in the area.
Speaking shortly after the symbolic presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries, Hon Akintayo said one hundred and twenty constituents got fifty thousand naira each to support their businesses and make life more meaningful for them.
Akintayo expressed hope that turnover from the money, if used judiciously, would build a sustainable source of income that would feed their families and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the socioeconomic development of Oyo state.
“For our people who are market men and women, operating at a small scale level, we deemed it fit to give them cash to support their businesses. I believe if they use it judiciously, they can make more money to cater for their families.
“As a lawmaker, our primary assignment is to make laws, but then, as I am performing my legislative duties with different motions I have pushed at plenary, I deemed it necessary to also empower our people who had given us their mandate to represent them.
“So, the purpose of this empowerment programme is to ensure our people enjoy the dividend of democracy, which I believe is part of it is quality education. I believe we can only ensure quality education when we have a Serene environment for our students to learn.
“A part of the school had collapsed, I was informed about it and by the grace of God, I was able to renovate it and add a small office to it,” he said.
Akintayo said the empowerment and commissioning programme was in continuation of his previous people-centred initiative, which he highlighted to include enrollment of over five hundred constituents in health insurance, provision of free transportation during COVID-19 pandemic and donation of solar-powered street lights to over 10 communities in Olunde.
Earlier, in a goodwill message, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretary in Oyo state, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, commended Hon Akintayo, describing him as a lawmaker who has made the party proud.
Adeleke, who expressed confidence in Akintayo’s capacity to do more for the people, said the party appreciate his continuous interest in giving back to the people.
