The Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly (OYHA), Honourable Waliu Ayinde Salami, has commiserated with the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, over the death of his mother and the matriarch of the family, Mama Lydia Yilwatda who died last Sunday, 17th August, 2025 at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital at the age of 83.
Honourable Salami, who described the death as a shock and a painful loss to the APC as a party, said Mama was a pillar and virtues of faith, discipline and selfless service as reflected in the quality leadership the national chairman is displaying in the ruling party.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to Tribune Online on Friday in Abuja titled “Mama Lydia was a Matriarch who raised a visionary leader, the minority leader said, “The news of the passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, the beloved mother of our indefatigable National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, came to us as a deep shock and a painful loss to our party family.
“Mama Lydia was not only the matriarch of the Yilwatda family but also a pillar whose virtues of faith, discipline, and selfless service are visibly reflected in the quality of leadership her son provides for our great party at this critical moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey. Her passing is, therefore, not just a personal loss to Professor Yilwatda and his family but to the entire APC family nationwide.
“As Minority Leader in the Oyo State House of Assembly, I join millions of progressives across Nigeria to commiserate with our national chairman.
“At a time when our party is consolidating its unity and redefining its purpose for national development, it is clear that Mama’s nurturing hands and prayers were part of the strength behind the courage and vision of our leader.
“On behalf of my constituents, my colleague APC Honorable members in OYHA and the progressive family in Oyo State, I assure Professor Nentawe Yilwatda that we stand firmly by him in this period of grief.
“We are confident that the values Mama lived for will continue to inspire him to lead our party with wisdom, fairness, and uncommon resolve.”
“May Almighty God comfort our Chairman and the entire Yilwatda family, grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may Mama Lydia find eternal rest in God’s bosom.”
