Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that the state’s engineering standards have become a benchmark for others across the country, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to excellence in infrastructure development.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, made the remark while receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), led by its President, Aina Oguntala, during a courtesy visit to the State Secretariat in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde urged the NSE to adopt and promote Oyo State’s model of strict and transparent supervision of building projects, noting that such practices are essential in curbing the recurring problem of building collapses nationwide.

He expressed gratitude to the society for selecting Oyo State as host of its week-long national conference and encouraged delegates to use the forum to address prevailing engineering and infrastructure challenges.

Commending Oguntala on her historic emergence as the first female President of the NSE, Makinde described her leadership as inspirational and reflective of her distinguished professional record. He further directed the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, to participate actively in all NSE activities during the conference.

In her remarks, Oguntala applauded the Makinde administration for fostering a safe and enabling environment for economic activities.

She noted that delegates were enjoying the warm hospitality of the state and expressed excitement over the anticipated attendance of President Bola Tinubu at the event, where the Governor’s wife, Tamunominini Makinde, is slated to be honoured.
