The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has cracked down on street traders and violators of anti-open grazing and sanitation laws at various locations across the state.
The street traders were apprehended on Tuesday at the popular Bodija Market in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Reiterating the commitment to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws in a statement, the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Hon. Justice Aderonke Aderemi (Rtd.), emphasized the Authority’s readiness to promptly tackle and address all related offences, ensuring the prosecution of violators of extant laws.
She added that the enforcement exercise involved the removal of street traders at Bodija Market, including the evacuation of mini stalls, mobile counters, and goods displayed along the roadside.
“Recall that extensive sensitization and campaign efforts against street trading began with a flag-off at Bodija Market earlier this year in January, and have continued since then,” she noted, adding that OYRLEA is now taking action to ensure full compliance.
However, some miscreants who attempted to disrupt the operation and assaulted task force officials were apprehended by security operatives and have been charged to court.

In another development, residential rearing of cows and rams was addressed following three separate petitions from residents of Unique Estate, Oluyole, Ibadan.
Three rams and a cow were impounded, but the owner, identified as Moshood Ladipo (according to the cattle keeper), did not appear before the enforcement team left the scene.
The livestock have been taken to the Ministry of Agriculture. The owner has been given a seven-day ultimatum to claim them or face forfeiture, in lieu of a fine.
Some residents of the estate expressed their satisfaction with the State Government’s intervention.
Chief Wale Arowomole, a homeowner and resident of Unique Estate, commended OYRLEA’s prompt response to the situation. He highlighted the environmental pollution caused by livestock grazing in the residential area, which he said has led to growing community conflicts.
The enforcement team, led by retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Ojomo, Chairman of the Environmental Task Force and Chief of Staff to the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Mrs. I.E. Akinbode, also included officials from the Authority, the Oyo State Joint Security Task Force (Operation Burst), the Environmental Task Force, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, and personnel from Amotekun.
