… describes him as pillar of progressive politics
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated former Osun State governor and elder statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, on his 87th birthday, describing him as a key figure in Nigeria’s democratic development and progressive politics.
In a statement signed by Bolaji Akinola, special adviser to the minister, on Thursday, Oyetola said the former governor’s record of service, integrity and leadership had left a lasting imprint on governance and party politics in the country.
Oyetola noted that Akande, who governed Osun State between 1999 and 2003, laid important foundations for fiscal discipline, institutional reforms and people-focused governance in the state.
He added that Akande’s role in nurturing progressive politics and mentoring younger leaders continues to shape political discourse at both state and national levels.

According to the minister, Akande remains a respected voice whose counsel and moral authority endure despite his advancing age.
“Even at 87, he remains a voice of reason and courage in our political space, offering guidance that continues to inspire many of us,” Oyetola said.
The minister prayed for Akande’s continued good health and strength, wishing him many more years of service to humanity and the nation.
