Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has reiterated the need for women and girl children to be empowered for the socio-economic development of society.
The governor’s wife explained that the role of women cannot be overemphasized, noting that stakeholders and governments at all levels must be ready to support women to help them reach their potential.
She stated this in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during an event commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day, themed “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
At the event, women’s groups and associations from across the 16 Local Government Areas were in attendance and empowered with various items courtesy of the state government.

According to her, the state government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has empowered women through its policies and programs, including her flagship program, the Widows, Aged, and Orphans Hope Support Foundation (WAOH), and the Adire Ekiti Hub.
Mrs. Oyebanji said, “Today, we reaffirm our collective commitment to ensuring that every woman and girl enjoys her full rights and is empowered to fulfill her potential. The theme, ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,’ is a powerful call to action. It reminds us that our pursuit of justice and fairness must leave no woman or girl behind. Women’s rights are human rights. Equality is not a privilege but a fundamental necessity. Empowerment is the tool that unlocks opportunities and drives progress for individuals, families, and society as a whole.
“Right here in Ekiti, we are driving meaningful change. Through initiatives like the Widows, Aged, and Orphans Hope Support Foundation (WAOH) and the Adire Ekiti Hub, we have empowered women and girls in entrepreneurship and leadership. Our vision is to build a society where women and girls are not just empowered but celebrated.”
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. ‘Peju Babafemi, commended Governor Oyebanji’s administration for giving women opportunities to thrive and be part of governance in the state.
She stressed the importance of achieving gender equality and empowering women, emphasizing that creating a world where everyone has equal rights and opportunities should not be compromised.
