THE Chief Executive Officer, Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd., Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho has called for a comprehensive overhaul of infrastructure at the port to reduce the cost of doing business.
Iheanacho said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.
According to Iheanacho, an overhaul of infrastructure at the ports is long overdue but has become necessary to tackle the perennial gridlock on access roads at the ports.
“When we talk about congestion; government built the first, second and third mainland bridges and yet there is congestion at the ports.
“There is need to continuously review the demand for roads, build new infrastructure and repair existing ones to ensure free movement of goods in and out of the ports.
“Constant gridlock due to the bad state of port access roads causes inefficiency and increases the cost of doing.

“Costs do not stand still because they have to be passed onto the traders and eventually the person who buys the goods will have to pay for the demurrage and other costs associated with congestion,” Iheanacho said.
He urged policymakers to make laws to address the difficulties with the movement of goods in and out of the ports.
