The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has successfully disbursed over 60 percent of subsidized production inputs for wheat cultivation in 2025 to more than 80,000 farmers identified for this initiative in Jigawa State.
This information was shared by Eng. Saleh Salisu, the Jigawa State Coordinator for the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, while addressing reporters in Tsakuwawa village, located in the Miga Local Government Area, during his visit to inspect the distribution centres in the state.
The federal coordinator explained that “Over 60,000 farmers had been registered for wheat production under National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pokect Inputs Packages for NAGS 2024/2025 Dry Season in Jigawa state”.
Eng. Saleh Salisu noted that “So far over 60 per cent had been redeemed, made the payment and collected their packages across the state”.
According to him, the program is supported by the African Department Bank (ADB) and Jigawa state has the large share of 60 per cent of beneficiaries for the state advantage of enough and available land for wheat production.
He added that the program is part of the federal government’s agenda for food security and reducing unemployment through National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket Inputs Packages for NAGS 2024/2025.
The coordinator maintained that “out of the total 80,000 packages allocated to Jigawa state, 60,000 were registered, while the distribution exercises already commenced in 64 centres across the 27 local government areas in the state”.

“As you can see the package for each beneficiary is three bags of NPK, two bags of Urea fertilizers and one bag of certified 50kg wheat seeds, at a subsidized rate of only N159,189.50”.
“Every beneficiary had been sent an SMS of an allocation after being successfully registered through his/her mobile phones. After receiving the SMS notification the farmer will go to his/her closes redeeming centres to be redeemed, screen and paid then to collect the commodity. As you are witnessing here, is what is happening in all the 64 centres presently all over the state”.
He described inadequate storage facilities and let arrival of commodities, ICT and transportation, as well as the poor cooperation from the farmers as major challenges in the exercise.
Speaking to our reporter in Tsakuwawa distributing centre some of the beneficiaries decried the delay in the distribution of the inputs as the time for wheat planting is almost over.
One Malam Hashimu Saidu of Harbo Sabuwa of Miga local government said he received the notification and been coming to Tsakuwawa center to be cleared and collected for seven days now he is not succeeded.
