Over 300 indigents of the Ilorin emirates in Kwara State have benefited from a two-day free medical outreach that involved medical enlightenment, diagnosing, free drugs.
Beneficiaries, who included children, aged, women and youths were treated for various ailments such as High Blood Pressure (HBP), Malaria, deworming and eye care, among others.
Speaking with journalists during the programme, Head, Media and Publicity of the Gobir Organization Foundation, Mrs Eyitanwa Lawal, said that the project was jointly carried out by the foundation, in collaboration with the Joint Balogun Gambari Development Association and Ilorin Emirate Medical Doctors’ Group.
Mrs Lawal, who said the project was aimed at complementing efforts of the state government at providing adequate health care services to indigenes of the state, added that it was sponsored by Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, through his foundation.
“We have various programmes in our foundation and this is one of the programmes, following a health scheme we launched two years ago to enlighten, diagnose and cater for health care of our children, women, youths and elders.
“We are supposed to de-worm about 1,000 children with no limit to the number of elders to take care of. We’ll as well conduct blood sugar test, among others for the elderly ones and give them necessary drugs”.
Also speaking, the coordinator of the programme and a medical practitioner, Prof. Aisha said the project was meant to give back to the immediate community.
“We’ve come to help our people and give back to our community by treating hundreds of our people in Kwara State of common diseases, give them drugs, give first aid to those with chronic ailment and guide them on how to fight all sorts of diseases and as well de-worm hundreds of children, all through the support of our main sponsor for this programme. Treatment is without sentiments or discrimination and as you can see according to the number of people present here today.
“This does not serve as an alternative for visiting hospitals now that medical doctors are on strike but as well to complement their efforts in giving adequate medicals to the people in our community”.
According to a beneficiary, Mrs Medinat Aliu, who said she had come from a far distance to enjoy the medical assistance, explained that she heard the announcement on the radio and expressed her pleasure and satisfaction with the attention received from the medical practitioners present.
Also speaking, the spokesman of the Gambari community, Abdulrahman Okesuna, lauded the organizers for usual support to the needy and commitment to the community development.
