Over  100 women from the Police Officers Wives’ Association (POWA), Lagos State Chapter, were, recently, presented with empowerment materials by the management of  MTN,  as part of the Information and Communications Technology company’s empowerment initiative.

The women were handed mobile stalls to sell products – airtime and data, virtually, through the use of digital gadgets. Other empowerment materials presented to the beneficiaries, at the event, included phones, POS devices, chairs, tables, umbrellas and digital tablets.

The telecoms company also commissioned the renovated  POWA Market corridor in Falomo Ikoyi as part of the empowerment programme,

Speaking at the event,  the Sales and Distribution Executive, MTN Nigeria, Adekunle Adebiyi described the empowerment and renovation project as part of the company’s commitment to continually brighten the lives of their customers across the nation.

“We’re really excited to unveil the new POWA corridor as this project has been a long time coming. This empowerment and renovation is part  of MTN Nigeria’s commitment to continually brighten the lives of its customers across the nation,” he stated.

Adebiyi however expressed the company’s gratitude to the  state’s Ministry of Environment for giving the company the approval and opportunity for such project.

“We’re really  excited to have impacted the lives of members of the POWA association,” he added.

Commending the company for deeming it fit to give back to the society, the  General Manager, Lagos State Parks and Gardens (LASPARK), Bilikiss Adebiyi- Abiola, stated that the renovation would  go  a long way in enhancing the aesthetics of the POWA Shopping Complex  and  its  environs.

“We are glad that MTN is making conscious efforts to give back to the community and also beautify Lagos through the renovation of the POWA Shopping Complex Corridor here in Ikoyi. We are glad that Lagos State is gradually becoming a greener and healthier environment,” the LASPARK boss stated.

A resident at the Falomo Police Barracks, in Ikoyi and a relation of one of the beneficiaries, Ngozi Chukwu, stated that besides enhancing the fortunes of the immediate beneficiaries of the programme, the telecoms company, through the gesture, had  further enhanced the image of the Nigerian Police.

“At least visitors and passers-by will be taken in by this splendid environment which the company has just created with this programme. It is a big plus to the both the purse of these women and the image of the police,” Ngozi stated.
