Over 100 people in Ibadan, on Saturday, July 13, 2019, benefited from a free medical outreach powered by Inspiration 100.5 FM as part of its annual fitness walk and corporate social responsibility towards ensuring good health within its immediate environment.
The programme, which is the fourth edition, started with a 10 kilometres fitness walk which started at Inspiration FM office beside the Nigerian Labour Congress secretariat and terminated at the Lekan Salami stadium in Adamasingba.
Hundreds participated in the walk which was led by the Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC), Friday Ebelo and the General Manager of Inspiration FM, Olufunmilayo Olasugba and had participants that cut across various walks of life and age brackets, including a 72-year-old man.
The fitness walk and medical outreach is Inspiration 100.5 Fm’s vision of emphasising need to pursue good health and to connect with the community and filling perceived vacuums in medical care based on findings that many people desire good health but do not have the finances to pursue it.
The programme was supported by the EFCC, Three Crowns milk, Blue Gate Public Health Promotion Initiative, Red Cross, Metro Eyes and the University College Hospital, among others.
Speaking during the programme at Adamasingba stadium, the EFCC Zonal Head, Friday Ebeleo, appreciated the opportunity to partner with Inspiration FM on what he described as a laudable project saying the exercise is good for the body and it is important to maintain good health, while using the opportunity to talk to youths who formed a major part of those that took part in the walk.
“We have been moving around major streets of the town talking about repatriation of our stolen assets that we have been unable to recover because of jurisdictional issues. We want to tell people to advocate against crime because it is not about EFCC alone but a collective responsibility. We implore you to join us in the fight against corruption because it is one of the reasons we have insecurity in all its forms, because money that is meant for the nation to have infrastructure is taken out by few and stashed where it would not be beneficial to us.
“Looking at this sports complex, you will see the rot which is as a result of corruption; we cannot maintain facilities because of corruption. We do not reward hard work but encourage mediocrity. Stop perpetrating internet fraud because the effect is felt by all of us as a nation, we are all embarrassed outside because of this. Let’s change the belief that Nigerians are criminals by doing what is right.
Also speaking, Olunuga Oluwatomi, the representative of Blue Gate Public Health Promotion Initiative, said the primary purpose of her organization is to carry out basic health checks so that people will know their health status. “We are here to carry out medical tests for people that participated in the fitness walk; we have various stands for basic tests like the blood sugar stand, blood pressure stand and the body mass index stand, so that they can know where they stand medically and steps to take to curb any likely ailment before it blows out of proportion,” she said.
Aside giving palliative measures to health challenges, the fitness walk and medical outreach is also to cultivate the habit of checking their health status routinely to prevent late diagnosis and complications.
The General Manager of Inspiration 100.5 FM, Olufunmilayo Olasugba, who thanked people that participated for making the event a success, stated that the project was aimed at improving the health conditions of people in the community and encouraging fitness, to prevent minor ailments.
Other activities at the event included raffle draw for participants, where gifts like pack of three crowns milk, carton of noodles, clothes and household equipment, among others were given out.
