Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Oti, has received the ‘Governor of the Year for Economic Transformation’ award from the Daily Independent Newspaper.
This honour acknowledges his forward-thinking leadership and public-centric policies that have significantly revitalised the state’s economy in the last two years of his administration.
The award which was presented to Oti at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, by former Governor of Osun State and founding chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande was attended by dignitaries across Nigeria, including politicians and captains of industries.
Under Governor Oti’s leadership, revitalising the economy has been a priority. He is reinvigorating industrial projects that had stalled under his predecessors, such as the Cross River noodles factory, poultry processing plant and Cross River State Pharmaceutical Company, reflecting his commitment to continuity and progress rather than political discord. The full restoration of the industries promises job creation and local production, ultimately benefiting the people of the state.
Upon accepting the award on behalf of Governor Oti, the acting governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Agbe Odey, dedicated the recognition to the people of the state who have supported the governor’s vision for progress.
This award further enhances Oti’s reputation, which includes the 2024 ‘Most MSME-Friendly Governor’ accolade and the Michael Okpara Premier Leadership Prize. With these distinctions, Oti is solidifying his status as one of Nigeria’s most visionary and pragmatic leaders, with Cross River setting a national standard for development.
Other notable figures honoured, including Senator Oluremi Tinubu as Woman of the Year, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, Anambra State governor, Charles Soludo, Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Customs Comptroller-General, Bashir Adeniyi, among others.
