Osun West bye-election: Let peoples wish count on July 8, PDP chairman charges

BARELY 10 days to the July 8 by-election in Osun West Senatorial District, the Osun State chairman of Senator Alimodu Sherrif faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Bayo Faforiji on Thursday called on Governor Rauf Aregbesola to allow peoples’ wish and votes to count during the exercise.

He said the state governor should not explore his powers as the Chief Executive of the state and create undue advantage for his party, All Progressive Congress (APC) and desist from any act capable of subverting the electoral process.

Rising from the meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, under his leadership, Faforiji said “considering the feelers we are getting, we want to call on Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola to allow the free will of the people to prevail in choosing their senator for Osun West district.”

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting held in Osogbo, “we urge Mr Rauf Aregbesola to allow the wish of the majority to prevail in July 8 by election without any imaginary and real interference from any quarter”.

While contending that the positive response of people in the 10 communities, constituting Osun West Senatorial District to the candidate of the PDP, Dr Ademola Adeleke indicated imminent victory for the party, the communiqué added that “we stand by the candidacy of Adeleke in the election”.

The communiqué reads part, “We equally appeal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee free, fair and transparent exercise that will be acceptable to the majority”.

“We urge the people of Osun State, especially the electorate in the West District to remain calm and conduct them in peaceful manner during the election”.
