Nigerian youths have been charged to exercise caution before, during and after this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration to prevent the spread of HIV, AIDS and other sexual diseases.

The convener of the Girl-Child Education Advancement Initiative Foundation, Olori Adetokunbo Akinrera, gave the charge at a one-day interactive workshop and love feast organised for senior school students in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State at Ifetedo Civic Centre, as part of the activities marking this year’s Valentine Day.

Olori Akinrera, who is the wife of the Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Oyetade Akinrera, was elated and informed that the programme was organised for girls in order to combat the menace of sexual molestation and harassment during and after Valentine’s celebration in the community.

While acknowledging that love and intimacy were essential aspects of human endeavours, Olori Akinrera believed that girls must be expressed with utmost responsibility and self-awareness.

“We wish to remind the youth not to allow the sweetness of the love be-cloud their sense of sobriety and propriety while men should stop the molestation of young girls.

“Today’s event is the fourth edition and I promise that our foundation will not relent in pursuing the development of the school children in our society, as we will not leave everything for government alone. We need to collaborate with the government to ensure the progress of the girl-child,” she said.

In his remarks, Oba Akinrera commended his wife who is the facilitator of the programme, just as he charged her to put more effort towards the development of young girls.

Earlier, the Welfare Officer of the Foundation, Omowumi Adetayo, urged the participants at the workshop to make use of what they have gained in their various schools.

The event was also witnessed Quiz competition, interlude, debate, cultural display and lectures.
