Osun govt to enrol 19,000 pensioners in health insurance scheme

Concerned about various health challenges of pensioners in Osun, the state government has penciled down 19,000 of them for enrolment in its Health Insurance Scheme.

The state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke who made this known while flagging off “pensioners’ enrollment for Health Insurance Scheme” in Osogbo on Wednesday remarked that, “there are at least 19,000 (Nineteen Thousand) pensioners in Osun. All of them will be enrolled into this scheme. Please take advantage of this by availing yourself for this enrolment”.

He said the government took the decision after observing that the bulk of pensioners’ income goes into managing health challenges and it becomes imperative to intervene promptly.

The governor who pledged to embark on activities that will ensure the good health of the people as his administration has plan to register the vulnerable citizens of the state, added to organise state-wide screening processes that will ensure disease detection at curable stages.

Senator Adeleke stressed, “We discover that the critical problem is not just unpaid pensions. Even when paid regularly, the bulk of the fund goes into managing health challenges. Our report concluded that almost eighty percent of pensioners’ problems center around health questions and, Our administration conducted a situational review of the living conditions of our pensioners.

“It was at this point that we decided to address the root cause. We opted to meet our senior citizens at their point of need. It is gratifying to note that this programme is the first of its kind. This is a direct intervention to prove that the government can indeed meet the desires and aspirations of the people.”
