…says he is returning to the scene with renewed vigour to rebuild Osun
Senator Babajide Omoworare, a former member of the National Assembly, on Monday officially declared his intention to run for the 2026 Osun State governorship seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While addressing hundreds of his supporters at the state party secretariat in Osogbo, Senator Omoworare described himself as “a five-star general” with a flawless election record.
“I have never lost any election, and I am returning to the scene with renewed vigour to rebuild Osun,” he said.
“My appearance is not a public declaration, but a formal notification to the party leadership of my interest to run.
“This is not a declaration—it’s a notification. And I’m doing it here at the party secretariat because this is where my journey must begin.
“I have contested five times and I’ve never lost. Even when they tried to rig me out, I went to court and won. By God’s grace, I am a five-star general in politics.”

He highlighted his political pedigree and experience, saying, “My political pedigree and experience as a former Majority Leader in the Lagos State House of Assembly and as a senator representing Osun East qualify me for the job.”
“I am a progressive to the core. My great-grandfather was Afenifere. My maternal grandfather, the Ooni of Ife, was the first governor of the Western Region. This is in my blood.”
He attributed the APC’s loss in the last governorship election not to the strength of the opposition but to internal issues within the party.
“PDP did not win Osun. APC lost it. But we will not lose again. I’m here to help us get it right.”
On party unity, Omoworare pledged loyalty to the leadership’s decision.
“I am the right candidate, but if asked by the party leadership to step down, I will be willing to do that—though not without first making a strong case for why I believe I am the right candidate.”
“I will not be bitter if asked to step down. But before that, I must say why I’m running: I want to serve, and I want to win.”
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Osun State, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, appealed to all aspirants under the party’s platform to maintain peace and unity among members.
He urged them to work together to reclaim power in 2026.
The chairman, however, described Omoworare as a core progressive who understands politics, while maintaining that the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
