AGAINST the backdrop of the forthcoming 2018 governorship poll in Osun, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state on Sunday described the outburst of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) over its reconciliatory moves as vivid traits of a drowning ship, heading for the rock with a drunken sailor.
Reacting to the statement issued by the APC’s director of publicity, research and strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, the caretaker committee chairman of the PDP in Osun, Chief Sarafa Tunji Ishola contended that the APC was jittery and could not cope with the damning electoral defeat starring the party in the face.
It would be recalled that Oyatomi had lampooned Ishola, who expressed optimism about his party attaining victory in the crucial poll, saying he displayed an act of ignorance.
But, the PDP caretaker chairman in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune yesterday maintained that “we are conscious of the fact that our victory in the last Osun West Senatorial by-election was as result of concerted efforts of our leaders and stakeholders, who all agreed to work together in the interest of the oppressed and suffering masses in the state”.
Ishola described the APC’s spokesperson reaction as “an outburst of a drowning sailor, who would ordinarily want to hold on to every flimsy straw with the hope of survival, stressing that ” there’s said there is no hope of survival for the APC in this coming electoral hurricane because the people of Osun State are ready to change this ineffectual government come 2018.”
He stated that the stakeholders meeting of the party which was held in Osogbo, Osun State capital was “a huge success, in view of the attendance of top leaders of the PDP and their resolve to work together towards putting in place necessary party structures that will serve as rallying point for all members in 332 wards of the state.”
Ishola implored all the party members to sustain the current moves and tempo of reconciliation as well as mobilisation of new members across the state, just as he promised that his committee would be fair, just and transparent in handling the PDP’s affairs in Osun so that their actions would be in tandem with the mandate given to them by the National Caretaker Committee in Abuja.
