
As Akwa Ibom State, celebrated its 30 years of creation, it was a showpiece of achievements by successive governments that strive yearly to take the state to another level of development.
On Saturday, the vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, was received by politicians from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Governor Udom Emmanuel, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Ita Enang, who is the Senior Special Assistant (Senate) to President Muhammadu Buhari; Obong Umana Okon Umana, were among those who receive the vice president.
Among the projects inaugurated by the vice president were the syringe manufacturing plant, digital electric meters’ assembly plants in Onna Local Government Area and the rehabilitated general hospital at Etinan Local Area.
He commended the governor for what he described as focused leadership with deliberate plans to change the fortunes of the state for the overall wellbeing of the citizens.
Addressing the people, Governor Emmanuel thanked the founding fathers of the state and successive military and political leaders, who brought their ingenuity to bear in the socio-political and economic development of the State.
He urged the people to shun divisive tendencies and close-rank in order to take the state to the promised land, adding that his administration had in the last two years, committed scarce resources to strategic areas of industrialization, political inclusion, human capital development and job creation.
