Governor Ortom told the security chiefs that his administration is committed to fight crime and all forms of criminality in the state.
He directed that the operational vehicles be stationed in the four urban centers; Katsina-ala, Gboko, Otukpo and Makurdi.
The governor said that on assumption of office two years ago the state was faced with general insecurity from herdsmen attacks, cattle rustling, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other vices.
According to him, ‘ I believe that these vehicles in these four locations would facilitate easy access to most of the flashing points that security agents found difficult to penetrate due to a shortage of mobilities. These vehicles will again, facilitate easy movement to all places that prone to insecurity and require prompt responses.’
Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matter, Col. Edwin Jando, praised the security agencies in the state for their efforts at fighting crime in the state.
He said, ”experience has shown that it takes longer time for security operatives to get to certain or particular areas each time there is an emergency, but with this donations, it is the firm belief of the government that such areas would now be covered.’
In his remark, the commissioner of police, Benue State Command, Mr Bashir Makama, stated that the security agencies require the collaboration and cooperation of the government and people of the states to discharge its responsibilities to Nigerians and appreciated the governor for his gesture.
Makama urged the people of the state to always avail the police and other security agencies with necessary information and support especially now that the nation is facing a critical security challenge.
