Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that there is no specific timeline yet for the implementation of the Steve Oronsaye Report.
During an interview on Tuesday after visiting the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) headquarters in Abuja, Gbajabiamila addressed concerns that the report’s progress had stalled.
He emphasised that the Federal Government is actively working on the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth implementation of the policy when the time comes.
Gbajabiamila noted, “Oronsaye’s Report is being worked upon. Yes, we’ve been talking about this for months now, but anything worth doing is worth doing properly.”
He further explained that the complexity of the process requires careful planning, adding that a committee has been established to review the report and finalise the details.
While he could not provide an exact timeline, Gbajabiamila assured that the implementation would begin “soon.”
“I can’t get give an exact timeline but soon…We don’t want to sacrifice thoroughness on the altar of anxiety or anxiousness of getting things done. It will be done soon.”
He also stressed the importance of thoroughness over haste.
