THE Ogun State Police Command has arrested 20 persons in connection with the Oro festival crisis in the IkenneĀ Remo area of the state, on Saturday.
Sunday Tribune learnt that some youths in the town insisted on going ahead with the Oro festival celebration despite the government ban.
Information had it that the youths blocked some major roads in the town by burning used tyres. This was said to have led to confrontation with the police who had been monitoring the situation to ensure that there was no
breakdown of law and order.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident.
Alamatu said no fewer than 20 youths were arrested and two vehicles impounded by his men.Ā The CP said: “WeĀ are very much aware of the situation, it is a fallout of the longstanding obaship crisis in the town and recently, theĀ court dismissed the one currently on the throne but the judgment had been appealed.
“So based on the tense atmosphere, the local government which is the consenting authority for the festival saidĀ that it should not be celebrated so that it won’tĀ lead to any breach of peace.
We did the same thing last year but some youths who are being misguided decided they must have their way.Ā “We have arrested 20 of them, impounded two vehicles and everyone will soon be brought to the state command at Eleweran, Abeokuta, to answer for their misdeeds.”.
