The Special Task Force, Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has handed over arms and ammunition recovered from criminals during its operations to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
In a statement signed by the OPSH Media Information Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said the recovery was necessary as part of the Federal Government’s determination to stop the senseless bloodshed and insecurity caused by the proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW).
Maj. Gen. Oyinlola urged members of the public to support the Federal Government in its efforts to eradicate illicit arms in circulation and, by extension, promote a society free of illegal weapons.

He further disclosed that Operation SAFE HAVEN has recorded significant successes in curbing criminal attacks on communities and individuals through both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
According to him, a total of 220 small arms and light weapons have been recovered from criminal elements between 2024 and date. Additionally, 1,874 rounds of ammunition and 83 cartridges were seized during the period under review.
Responding on behalf of the Director-General of NCCSALW, Mr. Abdul Adamu, a Deputy Director-General at the Centre commended the OPSH Commander for the remarkable progress recorded against armed criminals, as well as the efforts made to tackle the proliferation of illegal arms within the Joint Operations Area.
The Director-General also urged the public to support the Federal Government’s plan to completely eradicate illegal arms from the society.
